You want a glimpse of the future? Police spying on us from above.

I find this most disturbing. The UK has gone over the Orwellian edge. As a retired police officer,
I am not necessarily opposed to the use of CCTV technology in public places or under proper procedure as directed by the courts, case law, as guided by Fourth amendment rights. However, there is something more sinister with putting up spy drones over civilian air space for police use. Unless a country is under siege or invaded in some way, this goes too far.

This gives the police the power to peer into your rear yard from thousands of feet above the ground or from across town. An auto pilot drone could be programmed to follow you for an indefinite period of time. Coupled with more advanced types of imaging technology, they could conceivably peer into you home.

While the UK has moved more to the socialist left, so have its police state powers. We need to keep this in mind as we decide what kind on nation we want. We are on a path toward European socialism. This and more sinister threats to our freedom await us if we do not wake up.

This is what happens to a people when they become so concerned with their own pleasured pursuits that they slowly give away their freedom for “security.” They forget that ultimately, they are responsible for their own security. Sir Robert Peel, the founder of modern policing and a British citizen, put forth a primary principle of policing; it was that the citizens were the police, and the police were the citizens. The police were just paid to do full time what is incumbent upon every citizen. A good and just people who practice virtue do not require this level of police intrusion in their lives. Do you want a cop on every corner? The police are invaluable; they perform a vital function. Their courage, virtue, and good works should be respected, revered, and supported. But lets not forget who the real police are. That power AND responsibility flows from us, each and every one of us.

I find it ironic that the nation that brought us Sir Robert Peel is bringing us “Big Brother.” Lets pray for them and for our future. Let wisdom and common sense be our guiding light. Let decisions about our lives be made at the local level and not by a powerful central authority.
